Eric Grunenberg is currently pursuing a PhD in psychology at the University of Münster, specializing as a computational behavioral scientist in the BackLab at the University of Münster and the Computational Social Science Lab at Columbia Business School. He earned his B.Sc. from the University of Münster and his M.Sc. from the University of Bonn, during which he also completed a research stay at Columbia Business School.
In his research, he leverages methods from the computational and social sciences to investigate social judgments at scale. He uses machine learning and other computational modeling approaches to extract interpersonal behavior and its traces from complex and semi-structured data sources such as text and video data to describe, explain, and predict interpersonal judgments and their outcomes.
His research is located both in the context of private life (e.g., dating) as well as in the context of business (e.g., applicant selection). He’s concerned with how computational methods can be used to better understand social judgments and their underlying processes and how one can use this knowledge to make better decisions and inform societal discourse.
Eric strongly believes in the transformative potential of tech-literacy as a catalyst for equality and progress. Consequently, he is dedicated to promoting accessibility to the knowledge that underpins his work, both within and beyond academic boundaries.
